Vehicle Disposal & De-Pollution Process

Following the introduction of the European Union Vehicle De-Pollution directive on the 16th July 2004, vehicles offered for destruction must be handled in an environmentally sensitive manner. Ward Recycling are a registered Vehicle De-Pollution Centre and have developed a 10 step process for the correct disposal of your vehicles to ensure that you comply with your responsibility with both environmental and vehicle legislation.

1. The customers vehicle is delivered to Ward Recycling.
2. The vehicles logbook (V5c) is presented by the customer as proof of vehicle ownership. This document contains the vehicles registration number and unique VINcode number.
3. The customer receives a certificate of vehicle destruction along with payment for the scrap value of the vehicle(if appropriate).
4. All liquids that may be hazardous to the environment - engine, transmission and hydraulic oils, brake fluids, engine coolants and even windscreen washer solutions are drained from the vehicle.
5. The Battery is removed and recycled.
6. The tyres are removed from the wheels and stored for recycling.The
steel or aluminium rims are remelted.
7. The engine is removed from the vehicle and collected for recycling.
8. The vehicle is processed into a compact rectangular bale.
9. The vehicle bale is shredded into manageable pieces by a shearing machine.
10. The metal is collected and recycled for industrial use.
