10 - Step Vehicle Disposal Process

Following the introduction of the European Union Vehicle De-Pollution directive on the 16th July 2004, vehicles offered for destruction must be handled in an environmentally sensitive manner.

Ward Recycling are a registered Vehicle De-Pollution Centre and have developed a 10-step process for the correct disposal of vehicles to ensure that you comply with your responsibility with both environmental and vehicle legislation.

Step 1:   Vehicle Delivery

The customers vehicle is delivered to Ward Recycling.

 

Step 2:  The Vehicle Logbook (V5c)

The vehicles logbook (V5c) is presented by the customer as proof of vehicle ownership. This document contains the vehicles registration number and unique VINcode number.

 

 

Step 3:  Vehicle Destruction Certificate

The customer receives a certificate of vehicle destruction along with payment for the scrap value of the vehicle(if appropriate).

 

Step 4:  Hazardous Fuel Drainage

All liquids that may be hazardous to the environment - engine, transmission and hydraulic oils, brake fluids, engine coolants and even windscreen washer solutions - are drained from the vehicle. 
 

 

 

Step 5:  Battery Removal & Recycling

The Battery is removed and recycled.

 

Step 6:  Wheels Removal & Recycling

The tyres are removed from the wheels and stored for recycling.The steel or aluminium rims are remelted.
 

 

 

Step 7:  Engine Removal and Recycling

The engine is removed from the vehicle and collected for recycling. 
 

 

Step 8:  Vehicle Compaction

The vehicle is processed into a compact rectangular bale.

 

 

Step 9:   Vehicle Shredding

The vehicle bale is shredded into pieces by or shredder based at our Ilkeston depot.

                                               
 

 

Step 10:   Materials Re-use

The metal is collected and recycled for industrial use.
