10 - Step Vehicle Disposal Process
Following the introduction of the European Union Vehicle De-Pollution directive on the 16th July 2004, vehicles offered for destruction must be handled in an environmentally sensitive manner.
Ward Recycling are a registered Vehicle De-Pollution Centre and have developed a 10-step process for the correct disposal of vehicles to ensure that you comply with your responsibility with both environmental and vehicle legislation.

Step 1: Vehicle DeliveryThe customers vehicle is delivered to Ward Recycling. |

Step 2: The Vehicle Logbook (V5c)The vehicles logbook (V5c) is presented by the customer as proof of vehicle ownership. This document contains the vehicles registration number and unique VINcode number. |

Step 3: Vehicle Destruction CertificateThe customer receives a certificate of vehicle destruction along with payment for the scrap value of the vehicle(if appropriate). |

Step 4: Hazardous Fuel DrainageAll liquids that may be hazardous to the environment - engine, transmission and hydraulic oils, brake fluids, engine coolants and even windscreen washer solutions - are drained from the vehicle. |

Step 5: Battery Removal & RecyclingThe Battery is removed and recycled. |

Step 6: Wheels Removal & RecyclingThe tyres are removed from the wheels and stored for recycling.The steel or aluminium rims are remelted. |

Step 7: Engine Removal and RecyclingThe engine is removed from the vehicle and collected for recycling. |

Step 8: Vehicle CompactionThe vehicle is processed into a compact rectangular bale. |

Step 9: Vehicle ShreddingThe vehicle bale is shredded into pieces by or shredder based at our Ilkeston depot. |

Step 10: Materials Re-useThe metal is collected and recycled for industrial use. |
